AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

  • New Neighbors: Please welcome Bryan and Andrea Puterbaugh, our new neighbors at 11901 River Hills in Area 1.
  • Home Break-in: On the morning of Thursday, April 21, one of our neighbors in Area 5 had their home forcibly entered and robbed while they were away on errands. Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. The Burnsville Police can be reached for non-emergency calls at 952-895-4600; all emergencies call 911.
  • The board would like to reactivate the “Neighborhood Watch Program” in our area but your support and participation are required. Anyone who is interested in making our neighborhood a safer place, please contact David Schlichting at 952-926-6515.
  • Emerald ash borer raises concerns from area residents. When our community was developed during the years 1972-1974, the developer planted ash trees on all properties in Riverwoods. Our ash trees are therefore, part of the estimated 900 million ash trees in Minnesota. Here is some information provided recently by the Pioneer Press:
  • “What To Do About Ash Borer”

    • Certain pesticides can deter the ash borer, but their application usually is required annually. U of M Extension officials offer some tips at www.extension.umn.edu/extensionews/2009/dont-treat-ash.html
    • An infested tree should be removed by a professional. Don’t rush to cut healthy tress. See a news release at www.mda.state.mn.us
    • To identify an infested tree or for treatment, contact a certified arborist. The international Society of Arboriculture maintains a certification lookup at www.treesaregood.org Signs of infestation include small D-shaped holes in ash bark and serpentine tunnels packed with sawdust under the bark.

Summary of Spring Activity:

  • On Saturday, April 25, about 12 neighbors got together and cleaned up the common area, the main entrance. The two largest cul-de-sacs also were cleaned and mulch was added where needed.
  • Thanks to Dale Hanson for applying fertilizer along the path leading to the common area.
  • The newest portion of the common area path will be sealed within the next few weeks.
  • The City of Burnsville repaired the sod around the Area 2 and 4 cul-de-sacs which were damaged by snow plows this past winter.
